David Burton started learning the violin at the age of nine in one of Britain's first Suzuki Groups (a revolutionary Japanese method of learning the violin) with the American teacher Mary Carroll. Later he studied with Trevor Jones and played in the British Youth Symphony Orchestra, with John Ludlow at the Royal College of Music and finally graduated with distinction from the National Centre for Orchestral Studies. He has also studied conducting with John Forster and Richard Dickins.

After spending two chilly years with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and Icelandic Opera he returned to London where he established himself as a freelance orchestral player and teacher. In addition to leading the Redhill Sinfonia he currently leads the Arion Orchestra and Henley Symphony Orchestra. He teaches a wide range of ages and abilities from complete beginners to diploma standard and finds both ends of the spectrum equally challenging and rewarding! He coaches and conducts the Henley - Leichlingen Twinning Association Youth Orchestra (a cultural exchange project partially funded by the EEC) and is a tutor on the Spring Music for Strings residential course at Hassocks.

As a soloist David has appeared with several orchestras, most recently in a performance of the Bach Double with Redhill Sinfonia on 36 hours notice. He's playing Lark Ascending on 1st December 2007.

David has a great love of chamber music and has been fortunate enough to have been involved with many excellent groups. As a founder member of the Hammig String Quartet he has toured throughout Britain and has been invited back to perform in Germany in February 2008.
