In April 2012 the Redhill Sinfonia appointed John Beswick as its Principal Conductor.  From time to time, the orchestra is also conducted by guest conductors.  The orchestra regards working with experienced professional conductors, as well as with its permanent leader (David Burton), as a key component of its continuing musical success.

John Beswick was an organ scholar of Hertford College, Oxford before postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music (repetiteur) and The Royal College of Music (conducting). He has worked on the music staff for Icelandic National Opera and Grange Park Opera, and has conducted opera across the UK and America for companies including Pimlico Opera, London City Opera and Swansea City Opera. John has worked with many orchestras in the UK, recently specialising in film music and, in 2009, gave the UK premiere of Dan Jones' music for the film Shadow of the Vampire. In the field of Music Theatre John has conducted shows including Les Miserables (West End), Miss Saigon (UK Tour), Avenue Q (West End) and Damon Albarn’s pop-opera Monkey: Journey to the West (at the O2).  John has also worked on many youth music theatre shows and student productions at home and abroad, and has clocked up almost 6 months ‘inside’ having thrice been Musical Director for Pimlico Opera’s prison projects.

Recents concerts have been conducted by Pavel Kotla, Jacques Cohen, Matthew Willis, Damian Penfold, John Beswick, Peter Farrant, John Andrews and Christopher Braime.

Forthcoming concerts are to be conducted by Christopher Braime (March 2012) and John Beswick (June 2012).

Christopher Braime studied conducting at the Royal College of Music under Neil Thomson and Richard Dickins. He is the music director of a number of organisations including the Pelly Concert Orchestra, the Worthing Youth Orchestra and the Grosvenor Light Opera Company as well as undertaking a wide range of conducting engagements with other groups. As a professional oboe and cor anglais player he also has an active career as a soloist and teacher.
